Sun Yueqi Honors College of China University of Mining and Technology (Sun Yueqi Honors College of CUMT) was established in 2008. It is a special zone and demonstration area for talent cultivation in the university. It also brings together top-notch resources and outstanding students from throughout the university, and is committed to cultivating top-notch innovative talents. In 2023, the university established the Future Technology College, which operates jointly with Sun Yueqi Honors College, continuously exploring the independent cultivation path of innovative talents.Through continuous reform and innovation, the college has established a full-chain mechanism for cultivating top-notch talents. It successively established the Science and Engineering Class (in 2017), the Science and Engineering Experimental Class (in 2019), and the Liberal Arts Experimental Class (in 2021), gradually forming a diversified pattern for cultivating top-notch innovative talents.
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the college comprehensively deepened education and teaching reforms. Anchoring the development orientation of "high starting point, high standard, and high quality", it took the lead in establishing multi-level talent training frameworks such as "undergraduate-postgraduate connection" and "complete credit system". By systematically integrating high-quality resources inside and outside the university, it constructed the "Three-system, Four-dimensional, Five-aspect, Six-guarantee" training system, the "4+3+X" progressive curriculum system, and the interdisciplinary honor course group. Through "laying a broad foundation + personalized orientation", it promoted a structural improvement in the quality of cultivating top-notch innovative talents. Relying on the high-quality scientific research resources provided by the university's national- evel key laboratories, provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, and key disciplines, the overseas internships or short-term exchange programs at world-class universities supported by the "Double First-Class Top-notch Undergraduate Project", and the tutor team composed of well-known scholars at home and abroad, the college has established a scientific research advancement mechanism of "early entry into laboratories, early entry into research projects, and early entry into research teams", helping students within the college develop a core competitiveness with both an international perspective and the ability to tackle cutting-edge issues.
After more than a decade of exploration and practice, the college has cultivated more than 1,000 outstanding graduates, with a further-study rate of over 95%. In the past five years, more than 98% of the college's undergraduate graduates have continued their studies in first-class universities and first-class disciplines at home and abroad. More than 200 students have entered the university's key disciplines to pursue master's degrees through the "undergraduate-postgraduate connection" training program, and more than 100 undergraduate graduates have directly pursued doctoral degrees. A continuous series of high-level achievements have been published in high-level journals.The college has achieved fruitful results in education and teaching reforms and talent cultivation. It has successively won the Special Prize of the National Coal Industry Teaching Achievement Award (in 2020) and the First Prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Education and Teaching Achievement Award (in 2022).
At this new historical starting point, the college will keep in mind the original mission of cultivating talents for the Party and the country,implement the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, adhere to the school vision of "building a first-class college and cultivating first-class talents", continuously explore the independent cultivation path of the best innovative talents, contributing to the innovative development of higher education in the new era.
